The City of Mount Vernon is reviewing its zoning code at the recommendation of the Housing Commission. The Commission identified accessory dwelling units (ADU) as a possible housing type absent from the zoning code that could allow for more housing variety and affordable housing options. In addition to ADUs, the City is using this review to consider other non-traditional housing: tiny homes and shipping container homes.
