A Comprehensive Plan is a document that presents the vision of what a community wants to be like on many topics in 20 years. The City of Lisbon is preparing this document to guide its actions across through 2041. Some of the topics in the plan include where new buildings will go, how people will get around, taking care of the environment, and what can be done to help businesses.

A Comprehensive Plan will help the City of Lisbon know where to put its time and energy to meet the needs of the community. Having a document that outlines what people want will help the City of Lisbon convince other entities, such as the State of Iowa and federal agencies to help achieve those goals.

This is your platform to tell the City of Lisbon what it should do over the next 20 years. The Comprehensive Plan is stronger when more people participate because the plan's ultimate goal is to help deliver what people want. Therefore, the plan must present an understanding of the community's desires. 

You can get involved in the planning process by using the tools on this website to provide us your thoughts and opinions. We'll incorporate everyone's comments into the plan.

Online engagement has several advantages. Traditional engagement methods can take up a lot of people's time, may pose an inconvenience, and even be intimidating, especially for specific populations. By using online tools a safe, convenient alternative is available to allow for engagement and dialogue. Finally, in-person interactions should be limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Iowa Smart Planning Principles are guidelines that must be considered and may be applied when planning efforts take place in the state. The principles are design to guide planning toward solutions that enhance economic development, protect natural resources, and deliver services and quality of life to all people.
